Drum Ring

Playing drums whether for performances or for practice down in your basement can be too loud to some people’s ears. There are times when the drum sound needs to be muffled to either create a new unique sound or simply just to tone the sound down a bit. For this a drum ring can be used to effectively muffle the sound of the drum beat without necessarily making it sound different. Thicker drum heads mounted with drum rings as a muffler usually results in less diverse pitches. A drum head that uses a drum ring effectively eliminates the overtones. While jazz drummers prefer thin drum heads, rockers usually go for thicker drum heads and those that are mounted with drum rings.

A mylar drum ring or a plastic ring that is circular in shape that fits the diameter of a drum is often used to slightly muffle the sound of the drum beat. Drum rings can temporarily reduce the sound of the overtones allowing you to practice without disturbing other people. These can either be cut out of old drum heads or purchased for a very affordable price. At less than $20, you can already have a drum ring set of four rings. When louder drum beats are desired, all the drummer has to do is to lift out the drum ring and beat away. By using drum rings, you can leave the neighbors out of your practicing so you can concentrate on your drum beats instead of parrying complaints from your family or neighbors.
